Border edging

It’s easy to smarten up tired wooden border edging with a little bit of help from Resene.

Ways with wood with Mark Rayner – 65

Difficulty level: Easy

You will need: a bucket, garden hose with clean running water, garden sprayer, paintbrush, paint stirrer and a stiff-bristled brush. Resene Moss & Mould Killer, Resene Timber and Deck Wash and Resene Waterborne Woodsman tinted to Resene Cherrywood.

To get the look: Mark painted the upright wooden planter with Resene Waterborne Woodsman tinted to Resene Earthsong.

Other ideas: For a dark green effect stain the wooden edging with Resene Waterborne Woodsman tinted to Resene Rangitoto.

Step 1 how to smarten up tired wooden border edging
Step one
Mix one part Resene Moss & Mould Killer to five parts clean water and fill the garden sprayer with the diluted solution.
Step 2 how to smarten up tired wooden border edging
Step two
Spray the edging, generously soaking the wood with the solution. Leave for 48 hours.

Step three
Mix one part Resene Timber and Deck Wash to three parts water.

Step four
Scrub the solution vigorously into the wood using a stiff-bristled brush.

Step five
Allow the wood to remain wet for ten to fifteen minutes and then rinse thoroughly with clean water. Allow to dry.

Step six
Carefully stir the Resene Waterborne Woodsman with a paint stirrer.

Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Woodsman to the wood edging, brushing in the direction of the grain, and allow to dry for 2 hours.
Step 8 how to smarten up tired wooden border edging
Step eight
Apply a second coat of Resene Waterborne Woodsman to the wood edging, brushing in the direction of the grain. Again, allow 2 hours to dry.
