Kitchen floor

Transform an old wooden kitchen floor using hardwearing Resene Qristal ClearFloor 2K.

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Clean damp cloth, Floor sanding equipment (consult your local hire centre), Hammer, Nail punch, Paintbrush, Resene paint bucket, Resene paint stirrer, Resene Qristal ClearFloor2K interior base, Resene Qristal ClearFloor2K satin hardener, Vacuum cleaner with soft brush attachment, Suitable protective clothing – see Resene Data Sheet D53 and the Resene Putting your safety first brochure for further information

To get the look: Mark painted the kitchen door with Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Shiraz.

Other ideas: Transform a plywood floor in the same way using Resene Qristal ClearFloor 2K or Resene Aquaclear. Use Resene Colorwood wood stain first to enhance or change the floor colour.

Punch any protruding nail heads with the hammer and nail punch.
Step 2

Using appropriate floor sanding equipment and wearing recommended protective clothing, carefully sand the floor and edges, sanding in the direction of the grain.

Vacuum clean any sanding residue using a soft brush attachment.
Step 4

Wipe over the sanded floor with a slightly damp cloth, and allow the floor to dry.
Step 5

Ensuring you mix enough solution to give the floor one full coat, carefully measure ten parts Resene Qristal ClearFloor 2K interior base to one part satin hardener.
Step 6

Carefully stir the solution thoroughly and then allow the mixed product to stand for 10-15 minutes.
Step 7
Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Qristal ClearFloor 2K to the floor, brushing in the direction of the grain. Allow two hours to dry.
Step 8
Step eight
Repeat steps five to seven until four complete coats have been applied. Allow seven days for coating to reach full cure.
