Canvas calling - Warkworth artistLyn Bergquist, artist
Carving a niche for oneself in the art world calls for the development of an innovative style to draw in art lovers and to clearly differentiate one's work. Lyn Bergquist has taken this in his stride combining unique themes and compositions while foregoing traditional restraints on material choices such as replacing the usual Gesso as canvas preparation with Resene Quick Dry Acrylic Primer Undercoat.

Working from a palette of Resene Lumbersider satin acrylic in hues of Resene Guardsman Red (bright red), Resene Turbo (bright yellow), Resene Resolution Blue (bright blue), Resene Japanese Laurel (bright green), black and white, the colours are blended on canvas to create all other hues. Selected for their brightness and clarity, the individual hues retain their strength and depth whether presented solo or as a blend.

With a history as a Film Designer and Art Director, Lyn's career in this area and his use of Resene products spans almost 25 years and countless projects. Throughout his commercial career, Lyn has pursued his personal art interest in painting, culminating in his first exhibition at Oedipus Rex in Auckland in 1991 followed by annual exhibitions.

Lyn's approach to painting follows a tradition of hard edge realism, with latest works featuring stylised coastline from Auckland City to the Mahurangi Peninsula cleverly framed by driftwood for a tactile 3-D experience.
