Courting the clouds - Metropolis
A sizeable addition to Auckland's downtown cafe and boutique district - the $200m Metropolis development - is said to be the tallest residential complex in New Zealand.

The Metropolis is a 40-level, all-suite, hotel and residential complex, offering shopping, restaurants and car parking, right in the heart of Auckland.

The apartment tower, which has been built above the old Magistrate's Court, and which forms the grand entrance to the Metropolis, comprises 345 apartments.

The inspiration for the interior colour palette and material selection is based on New York's Four Seasons Hotel with clean, geometric architecture.

The colour palette features a range of specially mixed Resene colours in stone, taupe, beige and white to give depth to the generous use of natural materials in the public spaces. By contrast, colours such as bronze, silver and taupe have been used in the apartments, emphasising the variety of textural interest.

Resene Zylone Sheen was used as the topcoat on walls in the tower, courthouse and retail element for its low sheen finish and ease of cleanability. Resene Zylone 20 was used on the ceilings and Resene Qristal Poly-Satin was used to protect the woodwork.
