Vineyard escape - Parehua Martinborough Country Estate
The multi-million dollar Qualmark five-star luxury retreat Parehua Martinborough Country Estate opened in 2006 with 12 villas and cottages and the entertaining facility, but high demand has seen it fast forward expansion plans to quickly grow to double its size. Parehua now has 28 individual accommodation choices, including suites, cottages and villas all set out on the 2.25 hectares of landscaped estate, with function facilities catering for up to 60 guests.
Luxury cottages, suites and villas have views across the willow-fringed lake and beyond to stunning vistas and some are set amongst secluded woodlands with rural views, joined by leisure options such as tennis courts, a swimming pool and retro bikes for cycling around the vines and local wine village.
A variety of entertaining areas cater to a mix of functions. Parehua means terrace, reflecting the terraces of Martinborough that have become well known for wine growing and it is this vineyard setting that has proved popular for weddings. In keeping with the region, the Parehua wine selection features the best Wairarapa has to offer.
A diverse palette of Resene whites and neutrals contribute to the design and contemporary classic styling of Parehua. Hues include Resene Masala (murky grey brown), Resene Bison Hide (warmed green beige), Resene Talisman (deep olive), Resene Triple Bison Hide (mudbrick brown), Resene Baltic Sea (dark charcoal), Resene Sandstone (taupe brown), Resene Tea (river boulder beige), Resene Rolling Stone (mossy grey), Resene Mondo (complex grey green), Resene Half Mondo (lizard brown), Resene Pravda (sober beige), Resene Grey Olive (mid greened brown), Resene Villa White (smooth yellow white), Resene Gravel (dark grey), Resene Napa (grey beige neutral) and Resene Half Destiny (soft blue green).
Secluded vines and a chance to sit back, relax and enjoy the countryside is drawing in the guests and likely fuelling further expansion plans in the future.
