Shopper delight - Westfield Queensgate

Westfield Queensgate has expanded from a small suburban mall to a fashion and lifestyle destination and the largest enclosed shopping mall in Wellington. Situated in Lower Hutt, the mall houses around 130 stores and kiosks including household names The Warehouse, a new concept Farmers Store, Woolworths, a 9 screen multiplex and over 1800 carparks.

The extensive project combined predominantly new work with dashes of interior redecoration. Dissected into zones, each zone had a tight timeframe for completion to minimise disruption to customers and lost sales to tenants. To meet the schedule, painting took place around the clock at times, with crews of painters working in military precision using Environmental Choice approved Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen waterborne enamel, Resene Zylone Sheen low sheen acrylic, Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel and Resene Enamacryl gloss waterborne enamel to complete the extensive painting requirements.

Half and full strength Resene White Pointer (diffused neutral) acts as the interior backdrop offset against a myriad of corporate colours and the extensive paintwork required for the Woolworths and The Warehouse retail stores. The false ceiling is offset against a system of Resene Set Black (flat black).

Recognising that first impressions count, Resene X-200 waterproofing membrane tinted to Resene Barista (moody brown) and Resene Napa (smoky grey beige) protect the exterior and complement the new building style while steelwork in the carpark is finished in the intumescent coating Altex M77.

With 130 shopping experiences under one roof, there is something to tickle the fancy of even the most shopping-averse.
