Jun Arita, artist

Jun Arita

Jun Arita hails from Osaka, Japan but currently resides in New Zealand where he describes himself as a Japanese Pop Artist, Freelance Graphic Designer, Illustrator and Character Designer.

Jun is an Artist and Graphic Designer, whose colourful work draws its influences from Pop Art, Traditional Japanese Art, Kanji (Chinese characters used in Japanese writing) and graffiti. Jun hopes his art will inspire others to fulfil their hopes and aspirations. Sharing his work with others gives Jun a sense of purpose and the drive to create more work.

Jun has completed a number of art murals in NZ and Japan. Recently he has participated in live painting events in collaboration with Red Bull and Pink Noise. He exhibits regularly in Japan, the Netherlands and New Zealand. Jun has collaborated with many other interesting artists including Tiki Tane on art and design projects.

Jun's work holds a universal appeal and he is ambitious for his work to be seen in all the corners of the world.

His cherished motto is "Never give up!".

Thanks to a recommendation from a fellow artist, he started using Resene paints when he arrived in New Zealand and has continued to use them since. Jun enjoys using Resene testpots as they are available in a wide range of colours, really smooth and compact, which is very handy when he's doing live painting or mural work.

He has used Resene paints since arriving in New Zealand.

Jun has had a number of highlights in the last few years.  He won the GLASSONS T-shirt Design Competition for Breast Cancer Research Trust 2008, and his T-shirt design was sold at GLASSONS stores in January 2008. In March 2008,  Jun was interviewed by TV1 Asian Downunder about this T-shirt design. This led to him being asked to do mural work on the power box in Orewa, Auckland. Jun collaborated with New Zealand musician Tiki Taane for his T-shirt and his CD album booklet and has been designing the front cover of Japanese magazine Ecube since November 2008, which is published in Japan and New Zealand.

Also in 2010, Jun was selected as one of the artists to paint at Red Bull Stereopticon. This involved painting live using Resene paints at Britomart Square in Auckland, followed by mural work at Auckland University in conjunction with Red Bull.

In 2011,  Jun was asked to do live painting for Pink Noise's Pakiri event and donated his three paintings to the auction by Pink Noise for supporting people in Christchurch.
