Rockcote Architectural Coatings (NZ) Ltd has joined the Resene Paints Limited Group effective 1st July 2002.

Established in New Zealand in 1989, Rockcote Architectural Coatings (NZ) Ltd specialises in the manufacture and distribution of an extensive range of acrylic premium quality plaster cladding systems and coatings to the construction industry. Rockcote products are widely used throughout New Zealand to protect thousands of homes from New Zealand's extreme climatic conditions.

Rockcote products are manufactured in Christchurch and sold nationwide via a network of trained and approved distributors and Licensed applicators to ensure application and finish consistency and quality.

Rockcote Architectural Coatings (NZ) Ltd perfectly complements the Resene Paints Limited Group. Like Rockcote, Resene is a privately owned New Zealand company committed to local manufacturing of premium products.

Nick Nightingale, Resene's General Manager, is excited about Rockcote joining the Resene Paints Group - "Rockcote's agreement to join the Resene Group will enable us to offer a truly comprehensive coating solution from the exterior plaster cladding through to the decorative finishing of the interior envelope".

Resene Paints Limited was originally founded in 1946 with the invention of a cement based paint. Innovation in colour and acrylic technology has seen Resene grow from these humble beginnings to the largest privately owned manufacturer and retailer of paint in New Zealand, servicing a nationwide customer base via the ColorShop network.

The Resene Group that Rockcote will be joining includes Altex Coatings Ltd, a Tauranga based company focusing on the manufacture and sale of protective and marine coatings, and Resene Automotive and High Performance Coatings, an Auckland based company specialising in automotive and high-end coatings. Resene also has manufacturing operations in Fiji and Australia.

While both are eager about future prospects, for the moment it is business as usual for Rockcote and Resene. The two companies will seek to build on the competitive strength of each in servicing the architectural, commercial and retail markets, however it is expected to take some time before synergistic opportunities are fully explored.
