Resene/Your Home and Garden Colour Home awards - November 2003 winner
John Botica of Beachlands, Auckland, was so bored with his dull green wooden fence that he transformed it into a work of art using 15 colours from Resene. His vision has netted this talented decorator $500 of Resene vouchers as this month's winner.

A dull green wooden fence transformed into a work of art using 15 colours from Resene

Inspired by the late artist Hundertwasser, who used colour to transform buildings, John Botica used his boundary fence to showcase his love of bold hues and mosaic art. He began with blues, using Resene Tory Blue, Resene Governor Bay, Resene 'Vortex, Resene Butterfly Bush and Resene Pelorous, adding the greens Resene Japanese Laurel, Resene Eucalyptus and Resene Sea Green, a little Resene Bulgarian Rose and touches of black Resene Nero and yellow Resene Broom. John created the zig-zags with Resene Bright Red and Resene Pizazz and adorned a few plain boards with Inca-style highlights that reflect his passion for the art of the South American Indians. He created his tiled 'Inca Man' on slate and finished the design with a pot in Resene Fruit Salad and Resene Tree Poppy.

Says John: "This is the way I really want the fence to be. It's a matter of how you arrange the colours - people feel energised when they see the fence and can't believe their eyes!"
