Background to mural creation:
The mural was created to hide the dominating and ugly back of the squash courts at the entrance to the school, and create an enduring work of art that would enhance the school environment, build pride in St Mary’s and reflect the school’s values. The mural depicts pathways to learning in a Christian environment with symbolism representing all curriculum areas and the West Coast natural environment. Students had input into planning to show what they had learnt at St Marys.

The original design concept was intended to be painted onto ply and mounted with the centre panel raised to hide a concrete beam. This proved impractical and a cross was added to disguise the beam.
