Wrought iron table

Give a tired old outdoor table a stylish new lease of life with a little bit of help from Resene.

Fun with furniture with Mark Rayner - Project 33

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: a clean cloth, wire brush, paintbrushes, sandpaper, screwdriver and Resene Mineral Turpentine for cleaning brushes. Resene Rust-Arrest and Resene Super Gloss enamel tinted to Resene Black.

To get the look: Mark painted the balcony balustrades with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Eternity.

Step one
Carefully disassemble the table top from the base.

Step two
Remove any areas of rust with a wire brush.

Step three
Lightly sand the table top and base to ‘key’ the surface. Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.

Step four
Spot prime any areas of rust or bare metal on the table top with one coat of Resene Rust-Arrest and allow to dry.

Step five
Spot prime any areas of rust or bare metal on the base with one coat of Resene Rust-Arrest and allow to dry.

Step six
Apply one coat of Resene Super Gloss to the table top and allow to dry.

Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Super Gloss to the base and allow to dry.

Step eight
Reassemble the table and spot prime bolts with Resene Rust-Arrest. Once dry, paint bolts with one coat of Resene Super Gloss and allow to dry.
