All in the greys

childrens bedroom

The Sims family purchased a Mike Greer property in Silverdale; a beautiful home which they fell in love with almost instantaneously. It was a blank canvas in terms of colour - but having had a keen eye for home styling for many years Jenna’s head was full of ideas. She could not wait to paint.

After falling pregnant with their daughter soon after moving in interior decorating got put on the backburner. It wasn’t until Jenna’s sister finished her home renovations about six months after she had Madison that she got inspired to start.

Jenna’s sister had used a lot of Resene Fuscous Grey in her home and that colour just spoke to Jenna too. She decided to paint just one wall in Resene Half Fuscous Grey in both the main bathroom and ensuite. The burnt grey brought out the colours in the tiles, and made both rooms look so much more inviting - even after the first coat!

Jenna has always been drawn to the colour grey as it is so versatile. She often changes up colour schemes in rooms so prefers to work with a neutral backdrop. Running with the grey theme into Madison’s nursery, it still needed to have a ‘girly’ feel, so it made sense to choose something with a tint of lilac. Resene Mischka seemed like a perfect option with a cloud pattern on the adjoining wall. Together these paired nicely and Madison’s bedroom is one of their favourite spaces in the house.

After watching The Block Villa Wars and visiting the open homes Jenna fell in love with Dylz & Dyls’ choice of grey in their lounge.

Next up on Jenna’s ‘want to do’ list was the guest room. One weekend out came the masking tape and rollers again. They painted two out of the five walls in Resene Delta, just for something a little different. It is a perfect stone-like colour that looks gorgeous in any light. It is also a colour which I don’t feel will date and can be paired with any bedding/accessories and look good.

Another colour Jenna fell in love with due to her obsession with The Block was Resene Duck Egg Blue. She had never really thought about a grey-blue for anywhere in the house, but the master bedroom had always had a blue/navy/teal vibe to it. After spying an Aura quilt cover set with beautiful hues of bluey grey and green, Jenna knew Resene Duck Egg Blue would be amazing as the room gets so much sunlight. She was right. It turned out even more beautiful than Jenna had imagined. Jenna says it is amazing how much more calming and relaxing the room is now. It looks great during the day and at night when it is dark and our bedside lamps are on – it is so nice and cosy - not to mention no more white on white on white!

The next job on the list is a fourth bedroom. Jenna has a few grey-toned Resene favourites still in the running to be popped up on those walls.

Thanks to Jenna.
