| Sticking together
The exterior was waterblasted, necessary to remove the loose lifting paint and ensure the surface was sound for painting. The heavily textured concrete made roller application difficult, so the entire exterior was painted by brush. The redecorating project took place over one summer, assisted by a 'painting party' to do the main work. Friends appearing with a brush were treated to a BBQ and drinks in exchange for their painting efforts. Gaylene believes "consideration must be given to the surrounding area when selecting colours to ensure the scheme suits the setting. And don't forget that good preparation is essential." Thanks to Gaylene Leadley of Christchurch.
