Completely restored
The MacHugh family's Kauri bungalow was relocated from a prime piece of real estate perched up on a hill at Bucklands Beach with stunning views of the bay to a lovely rural section at Pukekohe with rustic charm, then completely restored using a myriad of Resene colours to bring it back to its former 1930's glory.

The most difficult challenge was trying to tie in their love of colours with an open style older home without creating a rainbow of mismatched colour choices. They were lucky with the beautiful Kauri floors, trim and exposed beams that offset the vibrant colours allowing them to infuse warmth and depth into the ambient home.

Every weekend over a two year period were spent restoring the bungalow. The most physically taxing task was sanding back the exposed Kauri beams and trim using every possible stripping and sanding technique on the market.

In contrast, the most mentally draining job was choosing the colours. Spoilt for choice, the final decision was difficult. Returning from an OE in London, they had no furniture and few accessories so were completely reliant on the harmony of colour and recycled timber to create the desired look.

Resene products and colours feature throughout the home in every room and on virtually every surface, from Resene Decadence on kitchen cupboards complemented by Resene Pearl Lusta, Resene Red Berry in the lounge, Resene Sushi in the sunroom, Resene Paris Daisy in the bedroom to Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Bottle Green and Resene Red Devil on the exterior.

Despite the long hours decorating, the MacHughs have had a blast and look forward to their next home challenge.
