The top storey of the home is designed with high pitched ceilings with exposed beams, with the ceiling space between the beams made of plywood, a substrate they were keen to disguise to make it look like old plaster. Not able to find a plasterer willing to take on the challenge a quick visit to their local Resene ColorShop gave them an easy solution in the form of the textured product Resene Sandtex. Resene Quarter Spanish White was selected as finish colour as it seemed to tie into the theme and complement the dark timber beams. Scaffolding was required as the highest parts of the ceiling are around five metres high, then each individual beam was meticulously masked off, before the plywood could be primed and then topcoated in Resene Sandtex applied in a criss cross motion to get the old plaster effect. The finished result is outstanding - one would never guess there is plywood underneath. It certainly looks centuries old just as they wanted.
Just goes to show that where there's a will, there is definitely a way! Thanks to Sharon Keisall of Auckland.
