Rejuvenating
trims, joinery and accents can have a positive effect on the appearance
of your home as discovered by John Russell. His exterior paint
scheme involved repainting the interior windows and window frames
while leaving the original sound house colour as is.
In addition to the window repainting, the
original cracked front concrete deck was removed and a stained
wooden deck added in its place, while the original front door
was replaced and joined by stained glass, and the French doors
into the lounge were also replaced.
The most difficult part of the job was
removing the original gloss paint. A paint scraper was used initially
then all the crevices in the frames had to be sanded back by hand
generally down to bare wood. An orbital sander was used at the
end to ensure the sanding was even.
To rejuvenate the exterior, Resene Lumbersider
satin acrylic tinted to Resene Acorn was used on window frames
and Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Spanish White on window
surrounds. Resene Spanish White in a gloss finish was used on
the front door and French doors.
