Over 12 months of careful DIY has gone into extending and renovating
the Garrett home on Hawkswood Farm. Once a home for them to enjoy,
now others can share in their surrounds with its conversion to
a B&B. The guest area of bedroom, bathroom and toilet can
be closed off from the open plan section of the house, giving
privacy to the guests and homeowners alike.
The house is clad in vertical board and batten Eucalyptus felled
and milled on the farm. Most of the furniture, kitchen joinery
and the expanses of flooring are timber and wooden venetians adorn
the windows. The warmth of the timber theme provided the perfect
base for some adventurous wall colour choices.
To add warmth to the fireplace its surrounds have been decorated
with deep red Resene Monarch. Many testpots later, and in keeping
with the Kaikoura theme, paua colours were chosen for the master
bedroom that looks out to the Kaikoura Ranges. A palette of Resene
Kingfisher Daisy, Resene Eastern Blue, Resene Viking and a ceiling
finish of Resene Double Pearl Lusta complemented by a matching
duvet, gives a modern twist to a paua inspired scheme.
