new look residence

Birchgrove, New South Wales

Inspiration came from the surrounding trees and water in the area and the new owners’ desire for a light, neutral scheme.

Resene Dynamite front door

This home used to be mustard with white trim. After an extensive renovation, it was decided that the new scheme would be more neutral to take into account the sandstone pavers. The owners wanted to have a feature colour on the front door so it was decided red would co-ordinate well with the neutral greens. The house sits on an elevated block so it had to fit in and not be too heavy or dark. There are many native trees in the area that helped inspire the scheme.

Resene Lumbersider low sheen waterborne paint tinted to Resene Half Stonewall is used on the main wall areas complemented by Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel tinted to Resene Evolution on architraves, Resene Eighth Spanish White on door and window trim and Resene Dynamite as a pop of colour on the front door.

On the inside, a large Aboriginal painting needed a dark colour to highlight the rich colours in the painting. Inside walls are predominantly finished in Resene Quarter Spanish White with a feature wall in Resene Double Foundry and frames and architraves in Resene Enamacryl gloss waterborne enamel tinted to Resene Eighth Spanish White. The dark feature wall works best with the variety of colours in the artwork and the other indigenous art and artefacts.

Inspiration came from the surrounding trees and water in the area and the new owners’ desire for a light, neutral scheme.
