Regatta

Takapuna

The design is confident by using pattern and form and colour found in the maritime and oceanic language brought through into the interior.

Ctrl Space worked closely with the operator to refine the brief for this iconic venue. They crystalised the brief down to the core essentials of the offering – to take one of New Zealand’s premier hospitality locations and deliver an approachable yet aspirational bar/restaurant – each with equal measure.

Signage, counter, tables

This was to be an iconic seafood restaurant for Auckland. With this in mind, the client did not want the concept to be trite or contrived in any way. This had to be a genuine restaurant fit-out. With the site in such a striking location, one of the considerations was to ensure the interior aesthetic didn’t detract from the views available, while at the same time create a space that was befitting of the locale. As such they were eager to deliver a layout that gave everyone a glimpse of the ocean from anywhere in the space.

A fine balance of nautical cues and brand integration were adopted into the space so as not be become too cliché. They also endeavoured to create distinct zones that would ensure the venue was viewed as both a restaurant and a bar type establishment. They weren’t afraid to take the location literally.

Signage and bar

The design is confident by using pattern and form and colour found in the maritime and oceanic language brought through into the interior. Zones were created using products and materials and the use of colour, changes in timber finishes and large scale crayfish pot lights create the intimacy for a restaurant space. Larger, looser light fittings help create the energy for the bar space long with the intensity of the use of the Resene Patriot colour. The raised pergola structure creates a grandstand space to celebrate the views and is integrated back into the bar space with a painted band in Resene Patriot that is used within the space.

Structural elements and bulkheads are finished in the deep blue of Resene Indian Ink using Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen with feature timber slatted walls and ceiling in Resene Quarter White Pointer accented in Resene Patriot.

The custom, three dimensionally formed fish-scale tiles designed for the bar front, took extensive modelling and by working closely alongside the fabricator, they were able to achieve the form to perfectly fit the brief. This alongside the angled timbers on the walls and rope foil on the ceiling, form the core of our material palette, with bold accents of colour this ensured a level of freshness to match the fresh produce on display.
