“At first, I wasn’t sure what to do with the colour I received since I’ve never worked with it before. The word “pandemonium” means “wild uproar or unrestrained disorder”. In other words, loud and chaotic, quite the contrast to my introverted personality. But that reminded me of what I wanted growing up, to put myself out there. The colour itself symbolises, sophistication, luxury and power, while giving of rich and elegant vibes. This aspect of the colour became an element to the garment’s design.

After some researching, I came up with the idea to make it cherry themed to go with the colour, theme and the mood I’m going for. Cherries have many meanings across different cultures, for example in Japanese it stands for new beginning, renewal, good fortune and beauty. I resonated with the meaning behind the sweet and bitter fruit and made it the main theme.
The design I produced uses the elements of shape, form/silhouette and texture. The layered skirt, representing upside down teacups, has a (sharp, jagged) empire silhouette. The puff sleeve has its own separate silhouette that’s much softer than the main body. As for the principles, it uses proportion. The layered skirt changes the body’s proportion with its volume. While the bodice is small and fitted, the skirt and sleeves makes the body and shoulders look bigger.”
