“When I saw this colour, the first thing that came into my mind was light, happiness, optimism and brightness. I chose items that are related to the colour yellow like a sunflower, the sun and the butterfly. Yellow to me is a happy colour that gives you hope.

Black and straight lines demonstrates the closed up feeling I felt, while we were in lockdown. The colour black from me is from a time when things felt dark and unmotivating. In contrast, yellow represents freedom after this time of confinement. Yellow is to me a new beginning, life and hope.

Lockdown really made me appreciate the little things such as the slower pace of life, spending time with my family and being there for one another.

I chose to do a two-piece design that shows the emotion I felt during and after lockdown. The pleated bodice shows the closed-up feeling I felt during lockdown, however it also combines with the feeling of light as like the trousers and the sleeves the bodice is in yellow. The wide leg trousers and the flare of the sleeves demonstrate the feeling of hope, lightness and the freedom of having space to move ahead.”
