“75 years ago the world was emerging from a war that changed society forever. After entering the workforce many women were resistant to return to their former role of the doting housewife after having a taste of empowerment. This new attitude was reflected in film and media in the form of the "femme fatale" trope. Women started to be portrayed with strength and power, her femininity and sexuality was seen as a weapon instead of a weakness. The femme fatale had every man smitten... and she used that to her advantage. My design is a modern reflection of this attitude, that being feminine does not mean being weak or mild.

The hourglass silhouette draws on features from 1940s fashion and blends effortlessly with modern elements. The bell sleeves and ruched side panels pay homage to the iconic femme fatale gowns of the 40s such as Rita Hayworth's showstopping little black dress in the 1946 film Gilda. These feminine and delicate features contrast the deep v and the edgy cut of the sleeve yoke, both very fashion forward details that pulls this design into the future of fashion.

Resene was founded in an era that planted the seed for powerful femininity, and that is reflected in Resene Smitten. It is bold and unapologetic. It hits hard and it doesn't take no for an answer. Its undeniably feminine and its proud to be so. My design showcases all these characteristics that embodies Resene Smitten.”
