approx 1600mm of fence capping,
approx 3.6m of 50mm x 50mm treated timber,
100mm galvanised nails, drill with bits including 10mm masonry drill bit, hammer, paintbrush, rapidset concrete, ratchet set, saw, set square, small spade, spirit level, string line and a tape measure. Resene Waterborne Woodsman Penetrating Oil Stain tinted to Resene Bamboo.

To get the look: Mark painted the surrounding concrete block retaining wall with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Pale Prim.

Other ideas: Get a really dramatic look by staining the fence panel with Resene Waterborne Woodsman tinted to Resene Pitch Black.

Step 1
Step one
Measure and cut landscaping timber and fence posts to appropriate lengths (or lengths as listed above).
Step 2
Step two
Dig a 600mm hole and position one of the fence posts, securing upright with rapidset concrete (follow manufacturer’s instructions).
Step 3
Step three
Drill three 10mm holes spaced evenly along the length of the other fence post. Dig a second 600mm hole hard up against the block wall.
Step 4
Step four
Stand the fence post in the hole and hold it in position against the block wall. Drill through into the concrete with a 10mm masonry drill bit. Fix the post to the wall with the dynabolts, using the ratchet to tighten the nut. Fill the base of the hole with rapidset concrete.
Step 5
Step five
Starting at the bottom, fix the lengths of tongue and groove into position using two 100mm nails at each end, driven into the fence posts – check that the first piece is level with a spirit level. Continue until all lengths of tongue and groove are fixed into position.
Step 6
Step six
Measure and cut two lengths of 50mm x 50mm timber to finish off each end of the fence panel and fix with 100mm nails, as shown.
Step 7
Step seven
Cut the fence capping to fit along the top of the fence panel and fix with 100mm nails.
Step 8
Step eight
Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Woodsman tinted to Resene Bamboo to the fence panel. Leave to dry for 24 hours and apply a second coat.
