Window box

It’s easy to create this simple wooden window box using treated timber and Resene Kwila Timber Stain.

Difficulty level: Easy

You will need: 65mm exterior screws, drill with 10mm drill bit, exterior PVA glue, mineral turpentine for cleaning brush, paintbrush, paint stirrer,pencil, Resene Kwila Timber Stain, sandpaper, saw, screwdriver, tape measure, treated decking (approx 1700mm), treated fence paling (approx 650mm).

To get the look: Mark painted the background shed wall with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Manhattan.

Other ideas: The window box could also be stained with any colour from the Resene Woodsman range.

Measure, mark and cut a 650mm length of fence paling.
Step 2

Measure the exact width of the fence paling – ours measured153mm.
Step 3

Measure, mark and cut two 690mm lengths and two 153mm lengths of decking.
Step 4

Smooth any rough edges with sandpaper.
Step 5

Attach the pieces of decking to the piece of fence paling, as shown, fixing with PVA glue and 65mm screws. Allow glue to dry.

Drill 10mm drainage holes in the bottom of the window box.
Step 7

Carefully stir the Resene Kwila Timber Stain.
Step 8
Step eight
Apply two coats of Resene Kwila Timber Stain to the window box, allowing 24 hours between coats. Wash brush with mineral turpentine.
