It’s easy to give an old fence and trellis a new lease of life with a little bit of help from Resene.

How to stain a garden fence and trellis

You will need

 

To get the look: Mark planted a hedge of fresh green Griselinia to contrast with the warm red of the fence stain.

Other ideas: For a dark brown effect, stain the fence and trellis with Resene Waterborne Woodsman tinted to Resene Dark Oak.

How to stain a fence and trellis

Step 1
Step one
Mix one part Resene Moss & Mould Killer to five parts clean water.
Step 2
Step two
Wearing rubber gloves, saturate and scrub the solution into the fence and trellis with a stiff-bristled brush and leave for 48 hours.
Step 3
Step three
Mix one part Resene Timber and Deck Wash to three parts clean water.
Step 4
Step four
Scrub the fence and trellis thoroughly with the solution using a stiff-bristled brush.
Step 5
Step five
Rinse well with clean water and allow the fence and trellis to dry.
Step 6
Step six
Carefully stir the Resene Waterborne Woodsman tinted to Resene Warm Kwila.
Step 7
Step seven
Using a small paintbrush apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Woodsman tinted to Resene Warm Kwila to the trellis and allow to dry.
Step 8
Step eight
Using a large paintbrush apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Woodsman tinted to Resene Warm Kwila to the fence and allow to dry. Repeat steps seven and eight.
