Make a basket plant stand
How to make a basket plant stand

You will need

  • Basket
  • Small piece of ply
  • 1 x 0.9m x 28mm circular radiator dowel
  • 3 x 5/16” x 63mm leg studs
  • 3 angled leg plates
  • 9 x 30mm wood screws
  • 3 nail-on 25mm swivel glides
  • Resene Colorwood interior wood stain in Walnut WD

Cost: $60 excluding Resene product.

Instructions

Step one:  To make the base for the planter, cut a piece of ply to fit the inside of the basket.

Step two: To make the legs, cut the dowel into three equal pieces. Then drill pilot holes in one end and screw the leg studs into the holes. The studs will probably be a little too long and will require cutting down. Check the length by screwing them into the leg plates, then mark and cut any excess protruding beyond the plates.

Step three:  Elevate the cut ply on something a little taller than the depth of the basket, then slip over the upturned basket until it rests on the ply. Attach the leg plates by first drilling pilot holes through the bottom of the basket into the ply and then screwing them in place.

Step four:  Screw the legs onto the leg plates then hammer in the swivel glides.

Step five:  Paint or stain. To prevent your planter from rotting, keep your plant inside a plastic pot within the basket and remove it when watering.
