Set for spring

Mark Rayner makes a bulb planter from a wooden box.

You will need: A wooden crate or box, four small terracotta pots, exterior PVA glue, drill with 10mm drill bit, paintbrush good quality bulb potting mix and spring bulbs, Resene Quick Dry, Resene Sandtex mediterranean effect, Resene Terracotta Sealer and Testpots of Resene Wild Thing and Resene Limerick.

Step 1 how to make a bulb planter

Step 1
Drill drainage holes in the base of the wooden box, as shown.

Step 2 how to make a bulb planter

Step 2
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the inside and outside of the entire box and allow two hours to dry.

Step 3 how to make a bulb planter

Step 3
Apply one coat of Resene Terracotta Sealer to the pots and allow to dry.

Step 4 how to make a bulb planter

Step 4
Glue the pots to the base of the box, as shown, to form feet. Allow the glue to dry.

Step 5 how to make a bulb planter

Step 5
Apply one coat of Resene Sandtex to the out-side of the feet and box, dabbing the paint on to create a textured surface. Allow to dry.

Step 6 how to make a bulb planter

Step 6
Paint the feet with two coats of Resene Limerick. As with other paint in this project, allow two hours for each coat to dry.

Step 7 how to make a bulb planter

Step 7
Paint the inside of the box with two coats of Resene Limerick, again allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step 8 how to make a bulb planter

Step 8
Paint the top half of the outside with two coats of Resene Limerick, and the bottom half with two coats of Resene Wild thing, making a curved upper line. When all paint is thoroughly dry, fill the box with bulb potting mix and plant your bulbs.
