Pretty Poly

Mark Rayner creates a splash of winter warmth with this cheerful colourful planter.

You will need:

To get the look: Mark used a 'Long Tom' terracotta pot, available from most garden centres.

As seen in kiwigardener

Step 1 Step one
Seal the inside of the pot with terracotta sealer. Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry Acrylic Primer Undercoat to the outside. Allow to dry.
Step 2 Step two
Using the roller, apply two coats of Resene Paua to the outside of the pot, allowing two hours between coats to dry.
Step 3 Step three
Using one of the polyanthus plants as your guide, your guide, paint the main leaf shape with Resene Camarone. Allow to dry.
Step 4 Step four
Paint the leaf veins and edges with Resene Bilbao and the main flower shape with Resene Turbo. Allow to dry.
Step 5 Step five
Paint the edges of each petal with Resene Red Berry and use Resene Kaitoke Green to add some shadowing to the leaves.
Step 6 Step six
Paint the centre of each petal with a line of Resene Supernova. Allow to dry, then paint the eye of each flower with Resene Camarone.
Step 7 Step seven
Add a little more Resene Bilbao to the leaf edges and veins to create highlights.
Step 8 Step eight
Fill the pot with potting mix and plant up with polyanthus. Place in a semi-shaded spot and keep the plants adequately watered.
