Architect's memo 6: February 1981
Until now all paving paints have had a high gloss finish. Although this finish is durable and easily cleaned, it has two major drawbacks; the high gloss emphasises all surface imperfections and it also makes the surface slippery to walk on.
To eliminate these disadvantages, Resene have developed a new paving paint – Resene Sidewalk – which dries to an even semi-gloss finish with superior non-slip features and which has proved very resistant to marking by rubber tyres.
Incorporating the latest developments in the paint industry, Resene Sidewalk is based on a tough, flexible polyurethane resin to give maximum durability and abrasion resistance for both interior and exterior use.
A one-pack paint, it can be applied by brush, roller or spray and dries very rapidly. Resene Sidewalk is available in sixteen standard colours but commercial quantities of most B.S. colours can be manufactured. Sidewalk is suitable for paths, decking, light industrial floors, timber, concrete and asbestos cement. However, it is recommended that surfaces subjected to harsh treatment should be painted with Resene Aquapoxy. We will deal with Aquapoxy Flooring in greater detail in a subsequent Architectural Memo.
Data Sheet No. 038 on Resene Sidewalk is now available for inclusion in the Resene Manual and colour cards are available from all Resene Branches. In our March Memo, we will be discussing textured coatings.
