Ensure the surface is dry and free from dirt, dust and loose material. Thoroughly scrub down dense timber with Resene Timber and Deck Wash (see Data Sheet D813), rinse with fresh water and allow to dry. Do not allow the wash solution to dry out on the timber surface or on glass or aluminum joinery. Remove any gross contamination and semi-detached cellulose fibres.
Treat with Resene Moss & Mould Killer (see Data Sheet D80). Thoroughly scrub down with Resene Timber and Deck Wash (see Data Sheet D813) as per new timber above.
Do not apply over mineral oil stain types. The existing stain can only be confirmed if cans of the existing stain are present on site or the current owner undertook the last stain application.
If the existing stain is not a mineral oil stain type, prepare as per Weathered timber.
Resene does not recommend water blasting of timber as a preparation method, as this may damage the timber surface and compromise stain durability.
All sanding dusts can be harmful. Always wear appropriate protection.
Seek expert advice if working with lead, chromate or asbestos based materials or surfaces.
