Create this stylish wave painting from scratch with a little bit of Resene know-how.

Create a stylish wave painting

Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 104

Difficulty level: Challenging

You will need

  • Filler
  • Low tack masking tape
  • Paintbrushes
  • Picture frame fitted with a piece of MDF backing
  • Putty knife or similar

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Kamikaze.

Other ideas: For a monochrome effect simply use a combination of Resene Black and Resene White, mixing together on the picture as you go.

How to create a wave painting

Step 1
Step one
Create a low relief wave shape on the MDF backing, as shown, using the filler and putty knife. Allow to dry overnight.

Step 5

In the same way, paint clouds over the rest of the sky area with Resene Quarter Alabaster and then mix in a little Resene Black at the horizon to create an area of grey, as shown.
Step 6
Step six
Mask off the bottom areas of the frame where paint is likely to overlap and then apply generous amounts of Resene Bunting and Resene Snap over the wave form, as shown.
Step 7
Step seven
Immediately apply generous amounts of Resene Quarter Alabaster to create surf and incorporate a little more Resene Bunting, where necessary, to create additional shade and texture.
Step 8
