Create this fabulous magnetic blackboard from a simple piece of plywood and a with little bit of help from Resene.

Resene kids art with Mark Rayner - Project 106

Difficulty level: Challenging

You will need: Paintbrushes (including a medium artists’ brush), Paint stirrer , Piece of smooth plywood (ours measured 380mm x 560mm) Resene Blackboard Paint (blue), Resene Magnetic Magic, Resene Quick Dry, Resene testpots of Resene Chaos and Resene Orang-atan, Small paint roller and tray

Top tip: Once you’ve finished drawing on your blackboard, simply use a lint free cloth or a slightly damp cloth to clean off any chalk marks.

Here's another idea: This bright pink magnetic board was made using Resene Blackboard Paint (pink) and Resene Hopskotch.

Step 1
Step one
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the plywood board and allow to dry.
Step 2
Step two
Carefully stir the Resene Magnetic Magic until it’s thoroughly mixed - the paint will be a smooth mid-grey colour.
Step 3
Step three
Apply two coats of Resene Magnetic Magic paint to the primed board, allowing three hours for each coat to dry. When the paint is dry test that your magnets stick. If not apply more Resene Magnetic Magic.
Step 4

Using the paint roller to create an even finish, apply two coats of Resene Blackboard Paint (blue) to the board, allowing three hours for each coat to dry.
Step 5
Step five
Paint a wavy line around the outside edge of the board with two coats of Resene Orang-atan, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 6
Step six
Paint spots around the orange border with Resene Chaos and allow to dry. That’s amazing!
