It’s fun to create this cool castle from a cardboard box and a few Resene testpots.

Resene kids art with Mark Rayner - Project 122

Difficulty level: Challenging

You will need: Cardboard box, Paintbrushes (including an artists’ brush), Resene Art Action Quick Dry Resene testpots of Resene Delta, Resene Diesel, Resene Digeridoo and Resene Zeus, Scissors

Top tip: For safety you might need to get a grown up to help with cutting the cardboard.

Here's another idea: This fabulous toy hotel was painted with Resene Dark Crimson (roof), Resene Freestyling (walls) and Resene Nero (windows).

Step 1
Step one
Carefully cut the top off the box and then cut a rectangular pattern along the top edge, as shown. Cut the drawbridge in the front of the box, as shown, leaving it attached at the bottom edge to form a hinge.

Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the entire box, inside and out, and leave to dry for two hours
Step 3
Step three
Apply two coats of Resene Delta to the outside walls of the castle, leaving two hours for each coat to dry
Step 4
Step four
Paint the inside of the castle with two coats of Resene Zeus, allowing two hours for each coat to dry, and then paint the windows and bricks, as shown, on the outside of the castle with Resene Zeus. Allow two hours for paint to dry.
Step 5
Step five
Paint both sides of the drawbridge with two coats of Resene Digeridoo and allow two hours for each coat to dry
Step 6
Step six
Paint wooden ‘planks’ on both sides of the drawbridge with Resene Diesel. Allow two hours to dry. Let battle commence!
