Create a groovy bedside lamp with some metallic confetti shapes, a Resene testpot and some Resene Concrete Clear

Resene kids art with Mark Rayner - Project 22

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Metallic confetti shapes, Old bedside lamp base and lampshade, Paintbrushes, Resene Multishield+ gloss (now Resene Concrete Clear), Resene testpot of Resene Black, Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer, Sandpaper

Top tip: Lay the lamp base on its back when sticking on the confetti pieces to prevent them from slipping.

Step one
Remove the lampshade and bulb and lightly sand the lamp base with the sandpaper – you might need a grownup to help you with this bit.

Step two
Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer to the lamp base. Allow to dry.

Step three
Paint the lamp base with two coats of Resene Black, allowing two hours to dry between coats.

Step four
Working a small area at a time, apply a little Resene Multishield+ gloss (now Resene Concrete Clear) to the front of the lamp base and apply some metallic confetti shapes, as shown – the Resene Multishield+ will act like a glue.

Step five
Continue to apply the Resene Multishield+ and metallic confetti shapes until the front of the lamp base is covered, as shown. Leave to dry for at least two hours.

Step six
Apply another coat of Resene Multishield+ to the entire lamp base. Once it’s dry, replace the shade and bulb (get a grownup to help with this), plug it in and get lit up.
