Create this fun and funky button picture with a little bit of help from Resene.

Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 66

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Artists’ canvas, paintbrushes, Resene Art Action glaze (gloss), Resene Art Action Quick Dry, Resene testpot of Resene Surfs Up.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Chaos.

Other ideas: Create a cool modern artwork by painting the canvas with two coats of Resene All Black and then stick on metal washers and shiny panel pins with Resene Art Action glaze.

Step 1

Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the canvas and allow two hours to dry.
Step 2

Apply one coat of Resene Surfs Up to the canvas, allowing two hours to dry.
Step 3
Step three
Apply a second coat of Resene Surfs Up to the canvas. Again, allow two hours to dry.
Step 4
Step four
Apply one coat of Resene Art Action glaze to the canvas, allowing two hours to dry.
Step 5
Step five
Apply a generous dab of Resene Art Action glaze to the back of a button, as shown.
Step 6
Step six
Carefully position the button on the canvas.
Step 7
Step seven
Repeat steps five and six, gradually building up rows of coloured buttons, as shown.
Step 8
Step eight
Continue to apply buttons until the canvas is covered and fill any gaps with smaller buttons. Allow two hours to dry.
