It’s easy to create this brilliant butterfly picture from a few Resene Testpots and Resene Crackle Effect.

Resene kids art with Mark Rayner - Project 82

Difficulty level: Easy

You will need: Artists’ paintbrush, MDF butterfly shape (ours came from ‘Spotlight’), Paper plate, Primed artists’ board PVA glue, Resene Crackle Effect, Resene Testpots in the following colours: Resene Balloon, Resene Malibu, Resene Pulse and Resene Resolution Blue, Small piece of polystyrene

Top tip: If you don’t have an MDF shape, you can always make your own out of thick cardboard.

Here's another idea: This fluffy duck painting was made using Resene Crackle Effect with Resene Paua, Resene Supernova and Resene Tree Frog.

Step 1
Step one
Stick the piece of polystyrene onto the back of the MDF shape and allow the glue to dry.
Step 2
Step two
Paint the artists’ board with two coats of Resene Malibu, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 3
Step three
Paint the board with one coat of Resene Crackle Effect and allow to dry.
Step 4
Step four
Apply one coat of Resene Resolution Blue and allow two hours to dry.
Step 5
Step five
Pour a little Resene Pulse onto a paper plate and dip the butterfly stamp into the paint. Carefully stamp five butterfly shapes onto the board and allow two hours to dry.
Step 6
Step six
Paint in some pattern on each wing with Resene Balloon and allow to dry. That’s so neat!
