Transform a plain paper maché pony into a fabulous bedroom ornament with the help of a few Resene Testpots.

Resene kids art with Mark Rayner - Project 86

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Paintbrushes (including a fine artists’ brush), Paper maché pony (ours came from ‘Spotlight’), Resene Quick Dry, Resene Testpots in the following colours: Resene Alabaster, Resene Burnt Umber, Resene Mai Tai, Resene Nero and Resene Sambuca

Top tip: If you don’t have a paper maché pony like this one, you can make your own from PVA glue and newspaper.

Here's another idea: Make your very own shiny Black Beauty using Resene Alabaster, Resene Sambuca and Resene Nero, finishing off with two coats of Resene Multishield+ gloss (now Resene Concrete Clear).

Step 1

Step one
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the pony and allow two hours to dry.

Step 2

Step two
Apply two coats of Resene Mai Tai to the pony, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step 3

Step three
Paint the pony’s hooves with Resene Sambuca and allow to dry.

Step 4

Step four
Paint the pony’s eyes and nose with Resene Sambuca and allow to dry.

Step 5

Step five
Paint the pony’s mane with Resene Burnt Umber and allow to dry.

Step 6

Step six
Paint the centre of each eye with a blob of Resene Nero and, once dry, paint a highlight in each eye with Resene Alabaster. Yeehaa!
