Circular abstract

It’s easy to create this circular masterpiece using a selection of fresh Resene pastel colours.

Circular abstract painting

Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 95

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Low-tack masking tape, paintbrush, primed circular artists’ canvas, Resene testpot roller and tray Resene testpots of Resene BFF, Resene Chorus Line, Resene Freelance, Resene Nourish, Resene Reverie and Resene Tomorrow.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Nourish.

Other ideas: Use this same technique to create a Mondrian-inspired piece using Resene Alabaster, Resene Black, Resene Chaos, Resene Resolution Blue and Resene Turbo.

Step 1
Step one
Apply two coats of Resene Chorus Line to the canvas using a Resene testpot roller, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 2
Step two
Mask off ten sections, as shown, using the low-tack masking tape.
Step 3
Step three
Apply another coat of Resene Chorus Line over the masking tape and allow to dry. This will prevent subsequent colours from bleeding under the tape.
Step 4
Step four
Apply one coat of Resene Freelance to two of the masked sections and allow to dry.
Step 5
Step five
Apply one coat of Resene Nourish to two of the masked sections and allow to dry.
Step 6
Step six
Apply one coat of Resene Tomorrow to two of the masked sections and allow to dry.
Step 7
Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene BFF to two of the masked sections and allow to dry.
Step 8
Step eight
Apply one coat of Resene Reverie to the final two masked sections and allow to dry. Apply a second coat of each colour and carefully remove the tape while the paint is still wet. Allow to dry.
