Transform a plain terracotta pot into a work of art with a little bit of help from Resene.

Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 97

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Low tack masking tape, paintbrush, Resene Terracotta Sealer, Resene testpots of Resene Anise, Resene Chelsea Cucumber, Resene Dell, Resene Dingley and Resene Koru, terracotta pot.

To get the look: Mark painted the background shed wall with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Soft Apple.

Other ideas: In the same way create a strawberry pot using a selection of Resene reds and pinks.

Step one
Apply one coat of Resene Terracotta Sealer to the pot inside and out and allow to dry.

Step two
Using a brush apply two coats of Resene Chelsea Cucumber to the pot, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step three
Use the masking tape to mask off eight vertical stripes, as shown.

Step four
Carefully paint the edges of the masking tape with Resene Chelsea Cucumber and allow to dry. This will prevent the other colours from bleeding under the tape

Step five
Paint two opposite masked sections with two coats of Resene Dell, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step six
Paint two opposite masked sections with two coats of Resene Anise, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step seven
Paint two opposite masked sections with two coats of Resene Dingley, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step eight
Paint two opposite masked sections with two coats of Resene Koru, allowing two hours for each coat to touch dry. Carefully remove the masking tape before the paint fully cures.
