Paint for your personality

If you're doing home renovations and you're not sure what shades to paint your walls, take the time to consider what colours can say about your personality.

Many people consider their home to be an extension of themselves, so it's understandable they want to inject their own personality into the decor.

To help with this, Resene has used expressionist painter Johannes Itten's seasonal concepts to devise a colour personality test. The test can be used to determine which colours an individual may want to use in their home.

The results are divided into seasons, with a description of what kind of person each season might be. Based on this, individuals can learn the best colours to use when decorating their homes.

If you're a spring personality, it's likely that you love daylight and lean towards light, airy homes. You may want to incorporate bright colours into your rooms, complemented by clean lines and light coloured wood. Yellows, warm neutrals and crisp greens can all work well in spring-themed homes.

Winter personalities may prefer a fast-paced city lifestyle to laid back country living. To feel more comfortable in your home you could incorporate strong colours such as reds, purples and blues. Keep tones cool if you want to add a winter theme to your home.

If you're a summer personality you could opt for blues, greens and soft pinks on your walls to complement your calm personality. You should keep things warm and bright, looking to nature for colour inspiration.

If you lean towards autumn on the test, you could stick to your season with earthy colours that reflect the changing weather. Complement your personality with yellow undertones and rich browns on your walls, and keep your furnishings classic and durable.

Take the colour personality test to find out what season suits you.
