Paint your garage door

If you're thinking about selling your house and want to give it some curb appeal, you may want to give your garage door a splash of paint.

This will make your house stand out from the crowd, inject it with character and encourage prospective buyers to stop and take a look.

You'll want to choose a nice, sunny day to paint, and preferably one with as little wind as possible. This means you'll be working in a safer environment, as well as a much more comfortable one.

If the garage door is electric, make sure you've turned off this function so you can operate it manually.

Even though you're painting in the great outdoors, don't forget to lay down a drop cloth. You don't want to get paint splatter all over your beautiful driveway!

You should also give your garage door a good wash down with Resene Paint Prep and Housewash, as it's probably accumulated a lot of dust and dirt over the years. If it's stained then use Resene Timber and Deck Wash instead.

It's a good idea to start painting your garage door at the top and work your way down.

Think carefully about your paint choice – do you want a colour that contrasts dramatically with the rest of your house, or just a little? Or if you have a wooden garage door, you can choose from the range of Resene wood stain colours.

Remember, this is the colour your house's new owners will see every time they pull into the driveway, so use your colour chart thoughtfully and make it a welcoming one!

If you have paint left over, you could decorate other parts of your house's exterior or garden to match – perhaps your letterbox, front door or some decorative planters to complement your garage door. This will give the property a sense of unity that is sure to catch the eye of passers-by!

This is a quick and easy way to spruce up your house in an afternoon.
