Painting your bathroom

If you're undertaking home renovations, it might be time to think about how you want your bathroom to look. Whether you use it simply for a quick shower and brushing your teeth or you spend hours in bathtub at the end of the long day, it's important to select the right products for you.

Firstly, you'll want to consider the type of paint to use for this space. Remember that bathrooms can be affected by mould, mildew and heat, so it's best to think about using a specialised product.

Resene's bathroom and kitchen range features Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen Kitchen & Bathroom, which is formulated with anti-bacterial silver and MouldDefender, and ideal for walls. Team it with Resene Lustacryl Kitchen & Bathroom on trim and joinery and Resene SpaceCote Flat Kitchen & Bathroom on the ceiling.

It's internationally recognised that using anti-bacterial silver protection is a healthy and safe way to deodorise and sanitise surfaces that are have contact with water, skin and food.

Make sure you treat any moss and mould before you repaint, using Resene Moss & Mould Killer.  Otherwise if you just paint over the mould it can grow through your new paint finish.

Once you've decided on the right formula for your health, it's time to think about colour. If your bathroom is small, think about using light colours to and mirrors to make the space appear bigger. White is a bathroom classic, and can be updated with new towels and accessories if you want to re-decorate without re-painting.

Greens and blues, such as Resene Secrets, Resene Escape and Resene Carefree are also popular as they add a little more colour while still keeping a clean look.

If you're looking to add a point of difference, a high gloss paint on the ceiling might be a great choice. You could paint it a quirky colour to add personality to the room and the high sheen level will reflect water, candlelight and chrome accents in your bathroom.

Make sure your bathroom is well ventilated before you start repainting. A well ventilated bathroom is best for your health, your paintwork and all the accessories in your bathroom.
