Background to mural creation:
Workshops were run with seven koungas and two schools to work towards these designs and the eight panels represent white koru (air), orange koru (fire), wave koru design (water), koru/frangipani (earth – also both cultures Maori and Samoan in the community), Paua (harmony), Maori kite (teachers assisting children to achieve heights), Pohutukawa (tree of life), flax mat – woven community and te Waariki (early childhood curriculum).
