Background to mural creation:
As it is on the wharenui at Victory Primary School, it is important to establish a connection to a sense of place and people, hence Mangatapu and the Maitai River being represented. The six iwi of Whakapapa to Whakatu Marae are represented by the six babies, nurtured by the tuatara, keeper of knowledge and wisdom. It was important in their diverse community to represent Kotahitangi (togetherness) of our potential; inherent in the interwoven floor background and the seeds of beginning in the tuatara eggs. This rich abundance flowing from Mangatapu was generated to inspire and build connections of beginnings and the journey into the future bridging across a range of school levels.
