Background to mural creation:
A group of dedicated children and their community helper and mentor spent many hours shaping their ideas into this visual masterpiece, which represents so much about the school:
- Kowhaiwhai pattern and koru designs – the ‘lifeline’ (kowhaiwhai) intertwined with ‘new life’ (koru) is a direct link with the school vision – ‘Learning for Life’.
- Poutama pattern – The steps of life long learning.
- Whetu – stars (reach for the stars!)
- Vegetable garden – reflects their Enviroschool involvement and projects and also the idea of ‘growing together’.
- Other images special to the local region, such as the Oreti River, farming, hills and of course, the people.
