Location:
Howick, Auckland.
Team:
Julie Williams and Gem Williams.
Accessible to public:
No - it's in an early childhood centre and is set as a tunnel area.
Mural theme:
A journey through a stylised bush tunnel filled with native fauna with inspiration taken from 'Where the Wild Things Are' by Maurice Sendak.
Background to mural creation:
Howick Playcentre has been upgrading its playground and wanted to utilise a previously unused space with the intention of creating a bush tunnel. The original ideas couldnít be realised due to ECE regulations so they progressed with the idea of a mural to create the feel of a tunnel and to provide inspiration for the children to explore and play.
