Mural Masterpieces - Hill Road, Bay View, Napier

 Hill Road mural

Location:
Hill Road, Bay View, Napier.

Team:
Jil of Aotearoa (Jil Sergent) and Ruby Moon Dog.

Accessible to public:
Yes, inside library but can be seen from exterior.

Mural theme:
Bay View - past and present.

Background to mural creation:
Six panels make up the Bay View past and present mural - starting with the vivid Hawkes Bay sun and the hook of Maui, progressing through to sports, local iconic scenery, Bay View before the '31 earthquake, the Bay View Centre - the point of destination and distribution and the hub, the pub, men and motors.

The centre of the Bay View Village was once marred by an extensive and somewhat ugly fence. Rather than struggle to hide the fence the Bay View Community Charity Trust decided to enhance the village by making a feature of the fence, introducing the concept of large scale public community art, thus creating new found pride within an old village community.
