Background to mural creation:
In Term 3 the whole school had a focus on Kaitiakanga – guardianship, especially with an environmental focus. Ten year old student – Matai – designed and created an amazing piece of art. Staff were so impressed they decided to make it into a mural.
The main aim of the mural us to show people how humans are impacting negatively on the environment and that we only have one chance to make a change or difference. Matai was able to freehand transfer his poster onto the large mural totally independently. He did the majority of the painting with assistance from a small group of other Year 6 students.
