Background to mural creation:
In 2005, our school restructured and three new learning teams evolved.  Students and staff collaboratively named their own teams.  These are represented in our school mihi, they are: Kaweka our mountain, Takitimu our Waka and Mohaka our river.  These are shown in each team's colours/diamonds on the left of the mural.  In the middle of the mural are the students wearing the two school uniforms with silhouettes of Taradale's well known landmarks behind them.  On the right of the mural the students created jigsaw pieces with symbols to show the Awards Areas, which are Academic, Service, Cultural and Sports Areas.  The mural was the first visual evidence of the new teams and the award system in the school and now it's on display for all to see.  The design, style and all painting was fully completed by students.
