Mural theme:
The learning tree.
The tree represents the spirit of family and belonging that is unique to the school. The roots of education represent the strong foundation that education offers the children and the branches symbolise the ever evolving journey each child is on with their individual learning. The tree is surrounded by many native animals from the region and is adorned with hundreds of cultural and educational symbols and iconology from around the world. These symbols represent the cultural diversity of the school community.
Background to mural creation:
As a parent, Robyn wanted to create an enduring artwork that would not only kids proud but also would represent the unique school community. The tree is a bit like a “Where’s Wally?” but with symbols and icons for cultural and education. It is learning tree because it creates discussion among students and teachers about the symbols and their meanings. A key has been provided to the school to assist in this.
